It’s Wednesday, Happy Hump Day! Autumn is creeping into the Midwest and the sky is grey with a crisp wind in the air. Sometimes life has a way of feeling like the weather, ho hum….dark and gloomy…or bright and sunny.
Life has thrown some curve balls at me over the past couple years and past couple weeks. It is easy to get caught up in the emotion of stress, anxiety, fear, uncertainty, anger, sadness or disappointment. After all, we are all human and these feelings are part of life. But after allowing that set of emotions to process through, I challenge you to take a step back. I have found these curve balls to bring a new perspective and way of thinking about what lies before us each day. Choosing gratitude gives us a gift of peace and grace. Shifting our attitude can draw us closer to people and opportunities we didn’t know existed. Years ago, as we were growing up and making a cross country move, my dad would always remind us “PMA” Positive Mental Attitude! He was right!!!
Studies show stress can most certainly have an effect on your health. ” The more a stres-sor deviated from those parameters (fight or flight situations) by becoming more chronic, however, the more components of the immune system were affected in a potentially detrimental way.” (Sergerstorm & Miller, 2004) Don’t let it take over! To help me manage stress and promote a sense of calm and well-being, I turn to the benefits of aromatherapy and often use an essential oil blend by dōTerra called The Grounding Blend. A quick jog through the neighborhood also helps me juggle all those balls of stress too.
Today I will focus on beautiful red apples, stunning colors in the changing trees, and cheerful pumpkins that adorn front yards. Each breath reminds me to move on and look at what part of life, what part of work, what part of daily activities bring life to my heart and soul. Sometimes it leads to change. Sometimes it is just small adjustments in our day to day. Sometimes it is a huge life shift.
What is the oxygen that fills you up? That gives your life definition and purpose? That brings a smile to your face? That fulfills your need to contribute to the greater good and community around us?
Some of the oxygen for my soul: helping people, health and wellness, time with family, generating ideas, reading, learning, sharing life moments, exercise……
